Lego-based Therapy Group

Summary

Lego-based Therapy Group

About the Program

Our Lego Therapy Program is a structured, play-based intervention designed to support social communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging environment. Participants work together in small groups to build Lego models, with each member assigned a specific role, such as engineer, supplier, or builder. This collaborative approach encourages turn-taking, sharing, and active listening while promoting confidence and self-expression.

Led by trained facilitators, the program is tailored to meet the needs of autistic individuals and those with social communication challenges, fostering a safe and supportive space for meaningful interactions. Through guided activities, participants develop critical social skills that translate to real-world settings, all while enjoying the creativity and joy that Lego building offers.

Join our Lego Therapy Program to build not only with bricks but also connections, confidence, and skills for life!

How is it run?

Our Lego Therapy program is based on Legoff’s model of collaborative and shared play. It consists of structured play roles and free-play. Our program is designed to honor autistic communication styles and sensory needs and focuses on collaboration. observation, and critical thinking.

About Little Black Duck Social Connection Groups

Research indicates that autistic people feel disconnected from the community and don’t experience a sense of social resonance until they meet other autistic people. The most current research into autistic social interactions indicates socialising with other autistic people is easier and beneficial to long term wellbeing and self-identity.

Little Black Duck social connection groups are not designed to teach neuro normative social skills, they’re designed to created social resonance and connection within the autistic community

The Space

Group sessions will be held in a detached room behind the main office of the Develop and Grow Building. Toilets are located in the main building. If you need a break—whether sensory or otherwise—various items will be available for your use during the session.

The space also includes an outdoor area, which is fenced but not fully secure (the gates are easily accessible), should anyone wish to get some fresh air or move around. For seating, there is a couch, a spin chair, an armchair, and pillows, along with several types of coffee tables and a main desk. The room features a split system for temperature control and some natural light, although artificial lighting may be necessary depending on the time of day. The flooring consists of floating floorboards.
